Description

The Rosette Nebula is an H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy.
The cluster and nebula lie at a distance of 5,000 light-years from Earth and measure roughly 130 light years in diameter.
The mass of the nebula is estimated to be around 10,000 solar masses.
Visual Magnitude 9 and apparent dimensions of 1.3 degrees made this a 9 panel mosaic target for my 5 inch refractor.
This is old data from Jan 2018 worked with new Pixinsight tools. Sadly I had to give up on the HA as it was woefully inconsistent but the OIII was ok and shows off the globules nicely.
I think the trick to mosaics is to gather all the channels in shorter sets together to improve consistency.
